Cuban Signage and Typography

Radio sign

Last March I was privileged to go to Havana and Varadero Cuba. While there, I truly appreciated the hand rendered type on signage and posters. I was especially impressed by their government store logo, Plaza Caracol. The Cuban government is a huge supporter of the arts in their country, so i was not surprise to see so many forms of art and graphic design. Although there isn’t much for commercialism on the island, they make up for it with some interesting propaganda signage with historical facts. Not that they need it there. Cubans are very educated and know their history backwards and forwards. How many Canadians can say that?
